Why Darrke Thoughts?

People always seem to want to know how I got my name.  I picked the name DarrkeThoughts when I was blogging on another blogging network several years ago.  I like it.  It still feels “right”.  Sometimes it feels more right than my given name.  Like the real me… the inner me.

“But why dark? Why not light?  You should be Light Thoughts.”

I have to laugh, as there have been many people who seem to feel a need to lighten me up.  (I have a lighter side, and another account here that those who find me too dark might like better… feel free to go search for lighter thoughts if you like.)

I saw someone using “Darrke” as an alternate spelling and fell in love with it.  And besides:

Some people find my humor a little “dark”…

I was going through some dark times in my life then…

I felt I had things I wanted to share that were not entirely politically correct or socially acceptable.  I still had a strong need to share and the feeling that there were people out there that could benefit by knowing they weren’t the only one to have these dark thoughts.

I wanted them to know they were not alone.

I wanted to know that I was not alone.

I also was playing on the idea that dark is the opposite of light as heavy is also the opposite of light. So it was a pen name from which I could write my heavy thoughts as well as my dark ones.

I like to read, think, and write about politics, especially social issues, religion and spirituality, cultures and traditions of other countries, languages, and alternative health.  I’d like to make the world a better place.  If I found Aladdin’s lamp my first wish would be for world peace, and then for the means to feed and clothe all the world’s children.

I suppose my thoughts are dark because I see that the world is not perfect.  And like someone in AA, I believe the first step to fixing it is to admit we have a problem.

No, Really, Who is Darrke Thoughts?

Okay, if you really must know … my secret identity, the me that the rest of the world sees.  You can find me here.

Kidney for Sale…

Well, one more job interview has come and gone.  Not to me, but to someone with just a little more experience in that one vital thing that they were really hoping for. Even though they liked me and I had some really great experience, I just got edged out by that “slightly more and better” candidate.

There may be another job opening this summer.

In the meantime, every job I apply for seems to go this way.  Most of them like me, but there are just so many people looking right now that I find myself coming in second (or maybe third) all the time.  And meanwhile, I’ve used up my life savings, cashed in the retirement funds – and nearly spent all that too.

How do you hold out another 6 months – keep your family fed… ???

So my kid and I came up with this great idea the other night.  I happen to have an extra kidney.  It seems to be in pretty good shape, at least it’s keeping me healthy.  Why not sell it?  Anyone need a kidney?  Would it be worth paying my living expenses so I can keep looking for work for another year?

Just thinking…
